NFL Teams Making Deals with Sportsbooks
Following the legislation in 2018 to allow states to legalize gambling, there has been a surge in the popularity of the topic, especially in sports gambling. There have been several recent moves made by high-profile sports teams to support these changes, and we will take a look at them here:
The New York Jets
A multi-year partnership has been announced between the National Football League’s (NFL) New York Jets and Fubo Sportsbook, a new subsidiary of FuboTV, a US-based sport-centric streaming service.
This is Fubo Sportsbook’s first sponsorship of a professional sports team. The sportsbook is to launch in late 2021, subject to any regulatory approval.
The deal will see Fubo Sportsbook partner with the Jets and create the first sportsbook lounge at MetLife Stadium. If all goes to plan, it will open during the 2021/22 NFL season.
The sportsbook operator will also feature on the Jets’ mobile app as a presenting partner. Fubo Sportsbook, as the first legal sports betting partner, will have access to the Jets’ advertising partnership with Sportradar.
This latest move within the U.S. sports betting world is just a part of FuboTV’s overall goal of combining both betting content and live sports. Last December, the company acquired Balto Sports, a California-based company developing tools for players to organize and play fantasy sports. The company, in January, confirmed a deal to buy interactive gaming and sports betting company Vigtory, giving it access to its own sportsbook.
Maryland will soon have sports betting, and the Ravens have joined forces with Caesars Sportsbook. The mobile app will give fans the ability to place bets while inside M&T Bank Stadium.
Horseshoe Casino Baltimore has begun development on a sports betting area following the announcement of the striking of an agreement between Horseshoe, the Ravens, and Caesars Sportsbook. The agreement deepens the Horseshoe’s partnership with the Ravens and allows the casino to take full advantage of its proximity to M&T Bank Stadium when attracting new customers.
The sports betting framework for Maryland was approved earlier in the year by the General Assembly, and this 5-year agreement moves the state one step closer to having sports betting systems in place. Maryland is just the latest state to make this move, with sports betting already legal and operating in Washington D.C. and other nearby states, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Delaware, and West Virginia.
There has been a rapid expansion within the U.S. since a congressional ban was removed in a New Jersey case in 2018.
The Orioles and the Ravens’ stadiums are both within 40 miles of Washington competitors, so keeping up with the amenities offered has never been more important.
Virginia has given the Washington Football Team a permit for online sports wagering, which is already running in partnership with FanDuel, the fantasy sports and betting powerhouse. However, the Washington Nationals baseball team chose to partner with BetMGM on sports betting this year.
The Washington Football Team of the NFL has made history by joining the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) Have a Game Plan Bet Responsibly campaign. It is the first NFL team to not only promote responsible betting but to partner with AGA.
The partnership will mean that the Washington Football Team will have AGA content on washingtonfootball.com, in-stadium activations, and promotion on its radio and T.V. broadcasts.
The campaign centers around a series of steps to ensure players are betting responsibly. Including setting a budget, establishing limits, keeping it social and playing with friends and family, being informed, and only playing with trusted, regulated, and licensed operators.
“Approved” sportsbooks have been announced. The NFL has chosen to partner with FOX Bet, BetMGM, WynnBET, and PointsBet, giving them Approved Sportsbook Operator status for the 2021 NFL season. This deal will allow the four operators to purchase NFL in-game commercial units and other media inventory.
Betting Safely on the NFL
What all of this means is that as the NFL embraces these partnerships with sportsbook companies, the gambling experience will become more fun for everyone. Gambling is legal across many states in America, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, and more. All you have to do is be inside the state lines where online gambling is legalized. Then you can safely enjoy the fun.
